Acton Studio is a web design business operated by Blair Acton, a sole proprietor based in Birmingham, Alabama. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. "We," "us," and "our" mean Acton Studio. If you have questions, email blair@actonstudio.com.
Information we collect
- Contact information you send us. Your name, business name, email address, phone number, and anything else you include when you email, call, text, or fill out a form.
- Business details for building your site. Things like your services, hours, service area, photos, logos, and wording. To build free previews, we may also use information that is already public, such as a business's Google listing and customer reviews.
- Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. When you pay, your card details go directly to Stripe. Acton Studio never receives or stores your full card number. We can see limited details from Stripe, such as your name, email, billing address, the last four digits and brand of your card, and your payment history.
- Basic technical information. Our websites are hosted on Cloudflare, which automatically records basic technical data when someone visits, such as IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and the date and time. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure, and produce aggregate traffic statistics. We do not use advertising trackers on actonstudio.com.
How we use it
- To build, host, and update websites for our clients
- To reply to your questions and support requests
- To send invoices and receipts and process payments
- To contact businesses about a website we think could help them, with an easy way to opt out
- To keep our sites secure and working properly, and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations
Who we share it with
We never sell your personal information, and we don't share it with anyone for their own marketing. We only share it with the service providers we need to run the business:
- Stripe, to process payments (Stripe's privacy policy)
- Cloudflare, to host our websites and handle our domain and email routing (Cloudflare's privacy policy)
- Google, our email provider, which stores the emails we send and receive (Google's privacy policy)
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
How we protect it
- Our websites use HTTPS, so information sent to them is encrypted in transit.
- We rely on established, reputable providers (Stripe, Cloudflare, Google) to process payments, host sites, and store email.
- Access to client information is limited to Blair Acton, and our accounts are protected with strong passwords and two-step verification where available.
No method of storing or sending data is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and will let you know if a problem affects you.
How long we keep it
We keep client information for as long as you're a client and for a reasonable time afterward to handle questions, renewals, and our tax and accounting records (generally up to 7 years for payment records). Information about businesses that never become clients, such as a preview we built, is deleted or taken down when it's no longer needed, or sooner if you ask.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we have about you and send you a copy
- Correct information that's wrong
- Delete your information, unless we have to keep it for legal or accounting reasons
- Take down a preview site built for your business
- Stop sending you emails (reply "unsubscribe" to any email)
Just email blair@actonstudio.com. We'll respond within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
Children
Our services are for businesses and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll let current clients know by email.
